Four Weekends in February January 29th – February 28th 2010 The Scarlet South Festival is being held for the fourth consecutive year in a row in the blooming expanses of the Negev, every weekend during the month of February. The local residents invite you to take walks amongst the fantastic carpets of anemones and enjoy the area’s natural, historical and recreational sites. KKL-JNF has been sharing in the region’s development since before the establishment of the state and continues to join the residents’ initiative with this festival. You will find information stations, tours at no charge, activities for children, and a special walk to see the anemones! Yad Mordechai Information Station Fridays 9:00-15:00 and Saturdays 10:00-15:00. There will be guides at the station to lead you to the concentrations of anemones in the western Negev and to the local tourist sites. Information Stations and Free Trips Saturdays 10:30, 12:00 and 13:30 Be’eri Forest – at the entrance to Water Installation Road, guides will be at the information station to tell you the story of how the region was settled before the establishment of the state and to lead activities for families with children, every hour on the hour. First you drive in your own car to Water Installation Road in Be’eri Forest for a trip that will last about 1 ¼ hours. Ruhama Forest – at the entrance to the kibbutz, guides will be at the information station to teach you about Ruhama’s early days at the beginning of the 20th century and lead an activity of making red anemones out of paper. The trip, combining driving and walking, is to the Jemama well and the mosaic at the Byzantine church, through the fields of anemones. Other Festival Events: Cycling Among the Anemones Cycling in Be’eri Forest in the western Negev Saturday, 20th February, 9:00 The organizers of the Scarlet South Festival invite you to join a special cycling trip through the expanses of Be’eri Forest, on various routes suited for the whole family. The trip will be guided on a route for experienced cyclists on a single that is 23 kilometers long and will take about four hours. A family route, about 8 kilometers long and lasting about three hours, includes a guide and activities for children. For an additional fee you can rent bikes. The event is coordinated in cooperation with American Express. Advance registration is necessary. Fee. Participants should register in advance at Kav LaYa’ar, KKL-JNF Forest Hotline 1-800-350-550. 
March of the Anemones In memory of Shoshana Damari Saturday, 27th February As part of the Scarlet South Festival, we will set off on a march among the gently rolling hills in the vicinity of Ruhama, between the tree-plantings and the carpets of anemones. Departure time for the short route is between 8:00 and 10:00, and for the long route between 7:30 and 9:00. There will be guide stations along the way staffed by KKL-JNF volunteers with activities for the whole family and after the march there will be a musical celebration and more activities. We will close the event with a ceremony in memory of the beloved late singer Shoshana Damari. The march is organized by festival organizers.
