KKL-JNF's work in Israel is concentrated into six action areas that include water, forestry and environment, education, community development and security, tourism and recreation, and research and development.

Forestry & Environment


  • KKL-JNF has planted more than 240 million trees.
  • KKL-JNF manages and maintains more than 400,000 acres (160,000 ha) of forests and woodlands:
  • combating desertification
  • reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • creating green lungs around and within communities
  • enhancing biodiversity
  • KKL-JNF develops biosphere parks, the ultimate integration of humans and their environment.
  • KKL-JNF staff is on guard day and night, preventing wildfires in forests and woodlands with the help of forest watchtowers and the latest firefighting equipment.
  • KKL-JNF implements the latest research in rehabilitating damaged forests.
  • KKL-JNF is a partner in the country's environmental projects.

Water Management


  • KKL-JNF has helped build 230 reservoirs, providing two thirds of the water for Israel's agriculture.
  • KKL-JNF's recycled wastewater reservoirs free up precious freshwater for domestic use while preventing groundwater pollution.
  • KKL-JNF rehabilitates and develops springs and riverbanks.
  • KKL-JNF prevents erosion and desertification by repairing flood damage and regulating drainage.
  • KKL-JNF develops new water resources.
  • KKL-JNF develops and maintains the Hula Valley, which helps prevent pollutants from reaching Lake Kinneret, and continues to develop the Hula Lake Park.

Community Development & Social Change

  • KKL-JNF develops recreation sites, agricultural infrastructure and income-generating tourism facilities.
  • KKL-JNF redeemed over 700,000 acres (280,000 ha) of land for developing communities, prepared over 250,000 acres (100,000 ha) for agriculture in 1,000 rural communities and built 8,000 kilometers of forest roads and security-agricultural roads in outlying and border communities.
  • KKL-JNF creates green corners for the people who keep us safe, and for their families.
  • KKL-JNF develops parks and community forests that make a difference to the quality of life for both urban and rural dwellers.
  • KKL-JNF landscapes and develops the environs of community facilities.

Education

  • KKL-JNF educates thousands of young people in Israel and abroad, forging a lasting bond with the Land of Israel.
  • KKL-JNF creates fun-filled learning environments for youngsters at its Field & Forest Education Centers.
  • KKL-JNF reaches out to the public through the Internet, social media and forest events open to all.
  • KKL-JNF provides activities for people with special needs.
  • KKL-JNF supports pre-military preparation programs that provide education for values for the generation of the future.
  • KKL-JNF initiated KKL-JNF Houses of Excellence in the periphery for educational advancement and community empowerment.

Tourism & Recreation


  • KKL-JNF has created thousands of parks, forests and recreation sites open 24/7 and free of charge.
